Review: Dusk Body Scrubs
Over my lifetime, I've spent a lot of hours lurking in stores. I'm a reformed shopaholic, and there are moments when I do weaken, and spend money when I'm meant to be saving it. I mean, there are times when I head to stores that shouldn't even be a temptation for me, and I still manage to find products that I want to try! For example, I wasn't aware that Dusk made that many body products and a while back, when I ducked in there to find a present for someone, I somehow managed to make it out of the shop with a candle for someone, and additional goodies for myself, including these two body scrubs!
I mean, who didn't grow up with Strawberry Shortcake as part of their childhood? It's such a nostalgic trip every time I whip it off the shower caddy and use it! I don't know about you, but when I get the chance to, I like having different scents and textures to pick from when I'm having a shower. You might be thinking - different textures? Isn't it just either a bar or gel? If you've ever shopped at Lush, you'd know that there are also shower jellies, shower doughs (ie a putty like consistency, like Playdoh) and of course, there are also gritty exfoliating soap bars, among others.
But this isn't my ode to shower cleanser - rather, this is about body scrubs, and how they seem to differ within a certain brand. Dusk is such a mainstay in malls here in Australia - who hasn't bought something, either as a present for someone else, or as gift from you to yourself? It was with this thought in mind when I purchased the Strawberry Shortcake Sugar Body Scrub and the Secret Garden Spa Jasmine, Camellia and Lotus Body Scrub, which is, fun fact, part of a collaboration with The White Lotus TV series! You could say that I purchased something from two equally iconic pop culture moments!
The Strawberry Shortcake version comes in a baby pink jar with a red screw top with Strawberry Shortcake herself on it, and it almost looks good enough to eat once unscrewed. It smells like it too, because this carries the scents of strawberries, vanilla, sponge cake and waffle cone. In short, it smells like a mouthwatering dessert that narrowly misses being a plasticky sort of sweet, and hits all the right notes. I love that this sugar scrub has an almost putty like texture, which makes it easy to scoop out without actually making a mess or losing half of it all over the floor. I love that this does exfoliate without making it so that my skin feels too dry at the end of my shower. I reach for this when I'm in a playful mood, and I'm looking forward to something fun.
By contrast, the Secret Garden Spa Body Scrub has a much more grown up vibe to it. The label makes it look like it wouldn't be out of place at a fancy resort, and it looks more like a traditional body scrub, where there are light, white flakes that don't scratch while exfoliating the skin. This is a salt based scrub, and it delivers a aromatherapy experience made up of a blend of bergamot, magnolia, jasmine, green tea, gardenia, ylang ylang, lotus, camellia, moss and amber while you're massaging this into the skin. This is my preferred scrub when I'm looking for a way to wind down and step out of my mind for a moment. For my first foray into their body scrubs, I'm impressed by their range, and not at all disappointed! Also, their sales are insane, and if you're in no hurry, it's worth waiting to see if the price would drop. What's your favourite product from Dusk?
