Review: Dr LeWinn's Daily Cleansing Balm

Starting the week fresh and clean and ready to take on the world! Actually, that's not entirely true, as I had to work over the weekend, and I made myself go out on Saturday night to celebrate a milestone birthday with some very lovely friends, which was totally worth it, but also had to get up early in the morning to check in on some little patients at work, so as a result, I'm feeling a little wrecked! That said, though, no regrets, and I just have to be forward facing, and using my best face to do so!

Part of having my best face to do anything is making sure that it's clean at the end of the day, so that I can start fresh in the morning. Honestly, I stopped sleeping in my makeup in my early twenties, and even before that, I was only doing that when I was a little too inebriated, and stumbling my way into bed was more important to me than spending those precious extra minutes removing the day with the only things that were available then - very oily makeup remover, or facial wipes, which hadn't hit the height of their popularity then either.

There is literally no excuses at this point now, however, because it is actually really easy to take your makeup off before you go to bed - I mean, there is micellar water, which doesn't leave a greasy trail on your skin, or biodegradable facial wipes for convenience, or cleansing oils, which is my favourite lazy girl way of taking it all off. I would go one step further and say that cleansing balms are maybe an even better way of removing makeup than cleansing oils, as it is a little less messy, due to the consistency of the product, in that it comes as a more solid form.

I recently purchased the Dr LeWinn's Daily Cleansing Balm, which retails for $54.95 and comes as 100g of product in a white screw cap jar. It includes as little spatula to help scoop out the amount of product that you'd like to use, and it has the most satisfying texture! Firstly, it is the cutest pink shade, and while it looks very firm in the jar, the moment you dip the spatula into the balm and give it a gentle stir, it turns into a mash potato consistency that makes it easy to rub into the skin in rotational strokes. Once you've worked it into the skin nicely, you can add a bit of water to your skin to emulsify it, and then wash it all away.

The formula contains shea butter, jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid and squalene, so aside from being an efficient worker at getting rid of the traces of the day, it's also good for nourishing the skin while moisturising it, as well as being great for keeping it soft and plump. I find this to be great for removing my makeup, even mascara, but I have to be mindful of working it into the lashes a little bit, or it doesn't get it all. Given that I'm about halfway through the tub, I can safely say it's very much a great addition to my rotation! I picked mine up from Priceline, but you can find it at various retailers, including Chemist Warehouse.
