Review: True Botanicals Phyto-Retinol Clinical Serum
I feel like I've been in my happy skin era for a long time, but it also feels like as long as I'll be using skincare, which is for the rest of my life, I think that I'll be continuing to learn and evolve as I go along. There will always be my favourites, when it comes to key ingredients and actives, because I feel like these are the things that I get reliable results from and things that my skin seems to love, but as technology progresses, we have new and exciting things emerging for us to try, and I feel like the True Botanicals Phyto-Retinol Clinical Serum falls into that category.
The Phyto-Retinol Clinical Serum is said to give you all of the good results that Vitamin A promises to, but without the negative side effects that you could get, such as irritation, redness, peeling or dryness. Instead, this formula is one that uses Peptilium®, which is a biopeptide that's an antioxidant, derived from cranberry pulp and is supposed to work faster and better than what we know traditional retinol to be like, which means all of the good outcomes, without any of the bad stuff.
It also contains primrose, which has anti-inflammatory properties, and meant to soothe and calm the skin, while also moisturising it. Additionally, this also has astaxanthin, which is a powerful antioxidant, and can help improve the look and feel of the skin texture, while also reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. This serum is also supposed to help improve hydration, brightness, elasticity and the skin tone, resulting in more radiant, smoother skin that feels smoother.
This comes in a gorgeous amber bottle with a pump that has a small opening, and I find about two pumps to be adequate for my skin. The first thing that struck me when I used this was the light, floral, almost rose scented fragrance that I wasn't expecting, and it's just beautiful. The serum itself comes out a light orange that doesn't leave a tint on the skin. It's quite thin, and it gets absorbed really easily, and doesn't react with any other bits of skincare I layer over it.
As someone who uses retinol regularly, I don't find that I react to it very often, but I have been blindsided previously. I thought, however, rather than sliding into this gradually, I actually just dove in headfirst, and it's been a delight! My skin has been humming, in a good way, and looking luminous and gorgeous with the use of this serum. It has been thriving, and actually feeling smoother and there has been no issues with it's use. It's been one of my favourite things to try so far this year, and while we're only in February, the serums that will be on the blog for the rest of the year now has a benchmark against which they'll be measured! You can find more information about it over here. Are you a retinol fan?
