Review: Fenty Skin Cookies n Clean Whipped Clay Pore Detox Face Mask
We all know by now that a good skincare routine is responsible for a large part of why my skin looks this good (not boasting, just the truth), and that aside from skincare, it really is all about my genetic makeup. That said, I could always use a bit of extra help, and I find having a good face mask as a regular part of my routine to be great for giving it a boost, and that rings true even today. As someone who masks her face every two to three days, I feel like it has always helped in keeping my pores clear, and giving it an extra boost, so that I can shine brighter.
I was shopping on Sephora a while back, and I was intrigued by the Fenty Skin Cookies n Clean Whipped Clay Pore Detox Face Mask. Maybe I was shopping when I should have been eating, and perhaps it was simply that it looked like something yummy, and I was just craving something sweet. Either way, it caught my eye, and I absolutely wanted to get it in my mouth, I mean, on my face, and see what it could do for my skin, given my past successes with Fenty Skin products.
This is said to be a non-drying whipped clay mask with charcoal, and it's supposed to help deeply purify the pores by extracting dirt, oil and impurities. It's meant to also help improve the skin texture, and reduce oil and combat shine, while minimizing the appearance of pores. I'm not going to lie - I was really disappointed when I unscrew the lid on this jar to discover that this didn't actually smell like cookies and cream, but to be fair, it's probably for the best, because I'd hate to feel hungry every time I opened it!
This mask really does have a whipped consistency, and it's really bouncy! I love the consistency of this - every time I dip my fingers into it to scoop out a small amount, I find myself playing with it's marshmallow-like texture. It's a sensory delight! Suspended in the whipped clay are pieces of charcoal, which, when worked into the skin, actually spreads over the skin beautifully. I let it sit for about 15 minutes, and let the clay deal with the oil and contaminants on the skin, while the charcoal works on detoxifying the skin, and salicylic acid helps to clarify and refine the skin. While it doesn't dry down completely, I do find this to dry out on my skin a little bit.
Once you're ready, simply rinse it off, then get on with your skincare routine like you would normally. I love that this mask does seem to help clarify my skin, and that it leaves my skin looking clear. Overall, it's a delightful mask to use when it's hot, and my face is shinier than usual, and my skin could use a bit of a reset. This retails for $55 for 75ml of product, and you can find it over at Sephora. What's your clay mask of choice?
