Bigger and Better: Volumizers from Evo, Bhave and Schwarzkopf

Have you ever looked at your hair and gone - YIKES! Why does it look like a hairmet (ie hair so flat, it looks like a helmet)? I think many of us have been there - I know I have!

I used to think that my saviour was hair spray. You know, a little at the roots to get it to clump and stand up, it didn't always work. Don't get me wrong, it still works in a pinch, but I have to work much harder with hair spray to get it to look the way I'd like it to.

Volumizing powders, on the other hand, are easier to work with and you can really work it into the hair, which means that you can get it to look the way you want it to without having it look overly manufactured. Just get it into the roots, rub it in and fluff your hair out! Here's my rundown on all the powders I have on the go currently:

Evo Haze Styling Powder - This is a gentle volumising powder. I used this a lot while I was away in Paris and London in December, and I really liked that it gave my hair that bit of a boost for every day wear. It doesn't hold amazingly well, however, if you're looking to spend an evening dancing the night away.

Schwarzkopf Instant Volume Powder - While I do like this one, it is definitely more for when you're looking to keep a hairstyle in a tornado. Go easy on this one, or expect your hair to get really stiff and kinda sticky. It has it's place, but it's not my first choice for daily wear. However, I do reach for this when I'm attending a major event.

Bhave Gun Powder * - Without a doubt, my favourite dispenser for a volumizing powder! This clever little thing has a spout that you need to pull sideways in order to pump it out. You can direct this to specific areas with precision, as a result of the dispensing mechanism, and the powder comes out like a puff of smoke. Consistency wise, you get a midway thickness, somewhere between the two mentioned above. I like that this doesn't get quite as gritty and clumpy as the Schwarzkopf powder, but that it also has very decent hold. This creates adequate volume without compromising the texture of your roots.

Do you use volumising powders? What's your favourite?

  1. How do you use your styling powder? I've been rubbing mine between my hands and applying it onto my hair, i don't feel like it's doing a lot for my hair and my hands get sticky.
