Review: Joico Defy Damage Shampoo and Conditioner
Now that we're counting down to the Winter months, I can feel a shift in the weather and what it's doing to my hair and skin, particularly the ends that have been over treated, over bleached and under loved. Especially adding in that I've been really busy trying to destroy my own hair by stripping all the colour back, before going over it with fun shades and dyes, and then, of course, there's also the damage inflicted upon the hair by the hot hair tools - it's a wonder my hair hasn't packed up and left my head at this point! Therefore, as we all know, it's important to start with excellent staples, because these form the foundation on which you can build your pyramid of products to target the needs that you have.
The Joico Defy Damage Shampoo is designed to gently cleanse the hair, all while maintaining it's integrity. This is supposed to strengthen and protect bonds within the hair fibre, which is supposed to reduce breakage from daily styling, protecting it against environmental damage. Ultimately, this is meant to leave the user with soft and shiny hair that it's unruly. This comes in a cylindrical bottle and it's easy to get the shampoo out, which ha a relatively creamy texture to it. I like that it feels quite rich, and it lathers up beautifully.
I love that the shampoo has a 'salon type' scent to it, which feels a little luxe, but sadly doesn't hang around. I appreciate that this doesn't make my hair feel too squeaky clean, like it's been stripped of all the oils in the midst of being cleansed, and instead, it makes my hair feel soft after being washed, and I love that there's bit of volume to my hair after using this - not much, just a bounce, but that's enough to look like my hair has some movement and life to it. This also gives my hair a bit of a sheen, and it's an easy thing to love.
If you think the shampoo is worth it, then you're going to love the conditioner! My conditioner is always going to be more important for my hair than my shampoo, because this is meant to help keep my hair more manageable and softer, and help with how the 'finished product' of my tresses looks, as my crowning glory. The Joico Defy Damage Conditioner is meant to help detangle, smooth and strengthen hair bonds, while improving resilience. This is also supposed to help keep the hair looking vibrant, colour-wise, and help reduce breakage during brushing and styling. Like the shampoo, this is also supposed to leave the hair looking soft and silky, while staying protected.
This comes in a tube, making it easy to differentiate the conditioner from the shampoo. The trick is to leave it in the hair for about 2 minutes, which I feel gives me the results I want. I like that this is quite light on the hair, and that it doesn't leave a residue through the tresses after being washed out. I love that this leaves my hair with some volume, like the shampoo does, and I think that there's actually been less fall out since I started using this. This has a similar scent to the shampoo, and I love that my hair does feel softer. I only wish that this came in a bigger bottle! These retail for $39.95 each. Do your hair concerns change with the weather?
