It Only Takes A Minute: How To Help Save The Planet with Resparkle

Welcome to the end of our first week in lockdown, Sydney! We're now over the halfway mark (fingers crossed that it IS the halfway mark!), and I think it's also time for us to reflect on the positives that might have risen out of our week of limited movement. By zipping around less, we may have reduced the number of cars on the roads, which means that we've also been minimizing the amount of pollutants that our vehicles would normally add to the environment.

We have also, hopefully, reduced the amount of single use plastics by not adding it with bottles that we'd usually grab while on the go. Apparently, here in Australia, it only takes a minute, ONE MINUTE, for us to generate ONE TONNE of plastic waste. Do you have any idea of the enormity of this? It roughly converts to 1000kg, and if we're looking at what could weigh a tonne, we're talking a Black Rhinoceros, a male Polar Bear, a Giraffe... I mean, you get it, it's a pretty large amount!

I am hyper aware that this isn't the legacy that we should want to leave behind. I mean, it's not ok. We should not be looking at this and thinking, well, it's someone else's problem, because, trust me, we're all in this together. As someone who is childfree, I won't be handing this over to someone within my direct bloodline, but it doesn't matter any less to me, because, well, it shouldn't. How do you get started in helping reduce your single plastic use, you ask? Start by heading to the It Only Takes A Minute website to read about the initiative that Sarah Wilson is fronting, in conjunction with Resparkle, and sign the petition to get companies to take responsibility for their actions, and be accountable for their packaging.

Up for doing more in the here and now to make a real difference? Make the switch and start by trading in your products for more sustainable products, like the Foaming Hand Wash by Resparkle - it's simple, they send you a glass jar with a pump that is protected by a silicone covering, fill the bottle up with some warm water, then open the sachet of foaming hand wash and add that in. Wait for 40 minutes to allow it all to dissolve, and you're ready to rock and roll! The best part of using the sachet, by the way, is that you can add that to your compost! That's right, this brand is cruelty free, vegan friendly, and the sachets are compostable and plastic free! This foams beautifully when you push down the pump, and it is faintly scented and I can catch whiffs of lavender and mandarin when I wash my hands.

They also have you covered when it comes to an all purpose spray, as well as dishwashing liquid and laundry powder, so if you'd rather take the plunge in a different form, pick your jumping board and dive right in! Every little bit counts, so remember that you're doing this for our planet the next time you tell someone about your new initiative, or as you cart your food waste of peels and coffee grounds to the community gardens, where you regularly add to the compost bins. Recycle your textiles, cut down on your fast fashion purchases, and say no thanks to single use plastics - every decision you make can help shape the future!
