Review: Cake Beauty Heavy Cream and Cake Walk
For as long as I live, and at this rate, it's looking like at least another couple of decades, I will be surprised by babes who don't take care of their skin, but expect their makeup to do all the heavy lifting. I mean, guys, you gotta look after yourselves, and if you don't even try to decipher the basics of skincare (and it doesn't even have to be expensive), but instead, try to pile makeup over it, or as someone said to me recently, look to get botox to fix your issues, then, babes, you need to have think about prioritizing skincare now. It's more affordable, less painful, and there are multiple options available!
Of course, when I talk about skincare, it feels like I'm always discussing options for the skin on your face, but one of the first places you need to look at is the skin of your hands, when it comes to ageing. It gets a lot of exposure to sunlight, and given how much we use them, they also get exposed to a variety of different conditions, temperatures and moisture levels. For the last 20 years, I've been religiously using hand creams in the evenings, just before hitting the hay, because it's the one time of the day when I know I won't be using my hands, given that I should be, hopefully, fast asleep and not moving.
I was sent the Cake Beauty Heavy Cream Intensive Hand Balm and Cake Walk Rich and Reviving Foot Pretty Creme by one of my favorite people recently, when she shipped over a whole box of goodies from Canada (hi Lindsay, I love you!), and I was so excited to get the chance to try something new out! If Cake Beauty is a familiar brand to you, that's probably because we do carry their hair care line over here in Australia, but I don't believe that we have easy access to the skincare goodies. Thankfully, as they are Canadian, and someone there loves me, I have access to some global excellence, right at my fingertips!
The Heavy Cream Intensive Hand Balm is designed to soothe, smooth and hydrate dry hands and cuticles, and this has been formulated with shea butter, aloe vera, coconut oil and green tea extract. It's meant to help nourish the skin, and holds a warm french vanilla buttercream scent which, sadly, isn't as sweet as I'd like for it to be. This comes in a tube with a flip lid, and it has a thick consistency that takes some working into the skin, and even then, due to how rich it feels, it does leave the skin feeling a little greasy. My favourite part to use this on is where my skin folds come together, like over the knuckles and my elbows, and it helps keep my skin feeling smooth, and scale-free.
Since you're tending to your extremities, make sure to include your legs and feet! I'm on my feet a lot of the day at work, and the relief of coming home and whipping my shoes and tights off... there's nothing quite like that sensation! This contains a blend of sweet almond oil, avocado oil and cocoa butter, and it's infused with peppermint and spearmint essential oils, as well as pure menthol crystals, to give it that minty fresh scent. Like the hand cream, this is quite rich, and my preferred way to use it is to slather it all over my feet, getting between my toes, and slipping socks on to help keep them moisturised for longer. There is not more luxurious feeling in the middle of Winter than that of smooth skin between the toes! 100% vegan and cruelty free, this duo has been a great way to get through Winter! What's your favourite hand cream/foot cream combination?
