Review: Makeup by Mario Surrealskin Soft Setting Spray

Now that we're at the start of Winter, have you noticed a change in your make up? I'm definitely seeing little areas of dehydrated skin from time to time, particularly after massive days of work, where I've been on my feet for over 12 hours. Everyone knows that a good primer is definitely the best way to get started, and while all the other layers do matter in helping your makeup stay where it should be, the final step of the finishing spray is that extra bit of insurance to prevent any further shifting.

Makeup by Mario is a brand that has some very beautiful eyeshadow palettes, as well as a finishing powder that I have my eye on at the moment, and they are currently stocked at Sephora. My experience with them, up until recently, was swatching and pining after their stunning palettes, and I'm very glad that I got the chance to try their Surrealskin Soft Setting Spray, which was another product that was on my must try list.

This comes in an opaque bottle with a clear cap that is easy to pull off, and the spray definitely has a very misting effect, which I totally love. It means that this manages to distribute the setting spray nicely all over the skin. To use this, simply shake the bottle, then hold it about 6 inches away from the face before spraying it in a few even lines in a downward motion. I find that this mostly does help in preventing my makeup from moving, but it isn't totally foolproof.

As much as I use a eyeshadow primer daily, as well as powder it all to keep everything in place, even before spritzing my setting spray, I've found my eyeshadow to shift a little bit with this, when I haven't had it move with other brands previously. This doesn't have a scent to it, and I do love that this has hyaluronic acid to help my skin stay hydrated for longer, particularly as it's dry and cold at the moment. It also has niacinamide in it to help keep strengthen the skin barrier.

This retails for $63 for 100 ml, and while it's been a pleasure to use, given that this also has some really excellent skin loving ingredients, I don't feel like it's grip is as solid as some of the other setting sprays I currently have in my rotation. Instead, I prefer to use this as a refresher throughout the day, so that my skin gets a hit of moisture with a couple of spritzes. You can buy it over here  What's your holy grail setting spray?
