Review: 12 Reasons Keratin Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask
What is going on with this weather, am I right? Like, it's so hot, you could just about cook an egg on the sidewalk, and then just like that, the weather plummets down to a much cooler and windier day, so it's actually a little uncomfortable to wear shorts, and then it turns right around to a humid, sticky wet sort of week, where there's just rain, all the time. Like, yikes! It also means that rather than the dry heat that I prefer, I'm getting that humid stickiness that I grew up with, and this is my least favourite sort of weather for my hair - we're talking frizz city!
Enter the 12 Reasons Keratin Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask, to the rescue! The main selling point of this range is that it's anti-frizz, hydrating, smoothing and repairing, all while cleansing and detangling the hair gently - all of the things that my hair could really use this time of the year. I was very lucky last year, around Christmas, and won a hair care pack made up of all three products, and I've been loving this trio! This collection contains hydrolysed keratin, which is steeped in amino acids, and meant to help restore strength to each hair strand.
It also has macadamia oil to lend softness and shine to the tresses, while there's also hydrolysed corn, soy and wheat protein for nuturing and nourishing dry, damaged hair, making it so that your hair is more manageable, and less difficult to deal with, which means less discomfort for me when I'm trying to run my brush through my hair. Last but not least, it uses avocado oil as one of the ingredient to help hydrate and revive dull, damaged hair. On top of that, this promises not to weigh the hair down, while also being colour safe and vegan.
The shampoo and conditioner come in pump bottles which produce a nice amount of product with each push, and I like that the shampoo seems to lather up quite nicely, and it cleanses the hair without making it feel like it's overly dry or unpleasant. The conditioner has a medium consistency, and it's easy to spread this through the strands, covering all of the hair really nicely. My hair actually feels quite soft as a result of using this, and they do seem to make my hair dry quite straight with very little frizz. The compromise is that this doesn't give my hair much of a boost when it comes to volume.
It makes my hair a little bit flat from the roots, and the colour does wash out of my hair somewhat with their use, but that's what I would expect from washing my hair in general, and my hair does still retain some of the fun colours I run through it, so that's a win to me! It's an excellent duo and when my hair is feeling a little bit dry and sad, I use the hair mask for a hit of hydration. This comes in a black screw top jar, and I just scoop out a decent amount before putting it through my hair and placing it in an updo with a clip and letting it sit for about 10 minutes. This makes my hair feel soft, and for about $52 each for the shampoo and conditioner, and $26 for the mask, this trio is worth forking out for! Available now at Oz Hair and Beauty, as well as other retailers, for my first time with the brand, it's left me wanting to try more! What's your hair goal for 2026?
