Review: Umberto Giannini Rosemary Scalp and Hair Oil

Trying new hair care can be very harrowing. For example, if you're trying out new bits of makeup, you can easily take it off after putting it on if you're not keen on how it looks. If it doesn't work well while you're out, you can touch it up with something else that you have in your bag - or, at least, I can, because I like to plan for all contingencies. When you're trying out new skincare, unless it's an immediate reaction, it usually takes a while for a negative reaction, after which time you can change it to something else. However, when it comes to using a hair product that may not agree with your hair, you truly only have one of maybe three options.

You can either wear a hat, which is not a scenario that can be applied to most work places, or you can consider styling the heck out of it with copious amounts of hair spray or dry shampoo or both, or you can just live with it until you're due for your next round of shampoo and conditioner. I think I'm more of a grin and bear it sort of person - I've lived with more greasy ponytails than I'd like to admit, all in the name of research, of course, just for you guys! That said, sometimes it can work out very well, and in this instance, with the Umberto Giannini Rosemary Scalp and Hair Oil, it has been a great journey!

Firstly, let me say that perhaps I'm not the best target audience for this oil, in that it may actually be better for the babes with curly hair who need a bigger boost of moisture, but despite that, I've actually had some decent success with it. This is a multi-purpose oil (and don't we love a multitasker!) that is designed to boost hair growth, while repairing, nourishing and shielding the hair from further damage. It's also meant to help add shine while taming frizz, as well as help the hair withstand environmental stressors and heat up to 220°C. This is also supposed to soothe the scalp, so that you can have better skin health on your head.

The formula is packed with a blend of 16 essential oils, including rosemary, jojoba, eucalyptus, castor, peppermint, jojoba and safflower oils, which, when placed together, gives it an interestingly yummy, almost caramel-like scent. I don't know how that works, because I would have thought that it would have more of a mossy, floral fragrance. This comes in a clear glass bottle with a dropper built into the cap, and let me just say that a little goes a long way, and it's easy to go too heavy with it, so just be careful with it!

The oil can be quite oily, and you may have to try this a few times to adjust it according to how it suits your hair. When I've overdone it, my hair has felt weighed down and a little greasy, but just about 3 drops worth, and my hair feels softer and better hydrated. I do feel like this oil doesn't give me very much bounce, but it is good in terms of protecting my hair and helping it stay soft. This is colour safe, and suitable for all hair types, and sitting at just $19 for 50 ml of product, which will last for ages, at the rate that I'm using it! It's currently available at Priceline over here. Is this something that you'd like to try?
