Review: Garnier Fructis Banana Hair Drink Treatment
For much of my late teens and twenties, I used one particular brand and type of shampoo and conditioner, as, believe it or not, I once thought that it didn't make a big difference what sort of products/kind of hair care I reached for - my hair was always going to be the same, straight and boring, unable to hold a curl. Crazy, right? I'm here to dispel you of that notion - it does make a difference what sort of product you're going for/what hair goals you're trying to reach, and you really should think of it as an investment in yourself every time you're reaching for a new product.
Thankfully, sometimes there are activations present around events that are being sponsored, which means that you can occasionally pick up freebies and goodies from brands that are sponsoring these things, such as my all time favourite open air cinema that happens in the Summer, the Moonlight Cinema by Event Cinema. I believe Garnier has been one of their partners for the last few years running, which means that they always have a stand there, handing out goodies to those who are keen to pick up a couple of items. I feel like they might have been more generous in the past, but that said, a freebie is a freebie, and I can't argue with a full sized product that I haven't had to pay for, particularly when it's something that's brand new to me!
We were allowed to pick 2 products each, and I was super curious about the Garnier Fructis Banana Hair Drink Treatment, which is said to be an instant lamellar treatment that's recommended for use 2 to 3 times a week. It's supposed to revive dry hair, filling in gaps in the hair fibre, leaving it with a glossy sheen. The formula is vegan and free from silicones and sulfates. Additionally, this is also meant to nourish and hydrate the hair, leaving it looking and feeling healthier than before.
This comes in a transparent yellow bottle with a nozzle that has a little screw cap on it, and while it's a bit fiddly, it definitely prevents leakages from occurring, so I can't complain about it. I will, however, talk about how vague the instructions are. You're meant to use shampoo and conditioner as usual, then squeeze the excess water out of your hair before reaching for the Hair Drink. You're supposed to place 1 dose for fine hair, 2-3 doses for medium/thick hair, with an extra dose for those with long hair. Now, it doesn't specify exactly what one dose is, and given that the consistency of this is very watery, it's hard to ascertain what you're meant to be pouring into your hair. As a result, I've just been placing a healthy amount each time I've used it, and hoping for the best.
The texture of this also makes it feel like it's getting soaked up by the hair, but the proof is in the pudding, once it's rinsed out after 10 seconds of letting it sit. My hair smells like delicious BANANA. BREAD. The scent 1000% lingers, and it feels softer and looks more manageable with less flyaways than before trying it. I have really put my hair through the wringer over the years with multiple lots of bleach and regular colouring, resulting in it being quite dry and this has actually been what feels like a quick and effective fix for it. It's not as moisture rich, I feel, as a hair mask, but if your hair is in need of a fast and helpful zap of hudration and you're low on time, this stuff is amazing! You'll find it for around $18 for 200ml of product, and it is widely available in Australia. So worth it, and the results are awesome! Is this something you'd use?
