Review: The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG Eye Serum

The Ordinary has gone through quite a journey, as far as a company goes, but one thing remains the same - their products are consistently good, and always well priced. The Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG is no exception, and this eye serum is so good, I am almost done with the bottle.

This product is housed in a UV-protective bottle, which prevents UV light from breaking down the active ingredient. This has a dropper applicator, which means that you can gauge how much you need and get out the right amount accordingly. There is a total of 30 ml, and for only $12.70 per bottle, this is an absolute bargain.

The formula contains 5% of caffeine, which is quite high, and this is supplemented with EGCG, which is Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside from green tea leaves. What that means is that as a combination when used topically can help reduce the looks of puffiness and dark circles in the eye contour.

The instructions for use are simple - massage a small amount onto the eye contour twice a day, and let it work it's magic. This has a medium consistency, meaning that it is slightly runny, but also thick enough to sit on your finger for a few seconds without dripping off, which means that you don't have to worry about it completely disappearing before you can pop the top back on. It has a relatively light texture, and absorption is a breeze.

I honestly feel like this has been a major part of my skincare regime in keeping the skin under my eyes happy and dark eye circle free. Simply put, this just works. And given how accessible this is, now that it's available at Priceline, well, there's no excuse for not trying this!

What have you tried from The Ordinary? What's your absolute favourite product from the brand so far?

  1. Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG is a water-based serum that reduces the look of puffiness and dark circles in the eye contour. The formula works by combining a high concentration of caffeine with a highly-purified epigallocatechin gallatyl glucoside (EGCG).
