Review: Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks

A while back, Rimmel brought out The Only 1 lipsticks, and I thought they were sensational, but not quite matte enough for me. Like they were reading my mind, Rimmel then released their new range, The Only 1 Matte lipsticks at the start of the year, and wow, they are just gorgeous!

There are 9 beautiful shades in the range, and each lipstick comes in a red casing, which makes it easier to find than some of my other lippies, given that this is a colour that I can spot in the dark depths of my bag. These are of the same shape as the other lipsticks from The Only 1 range, but you can tell them apart really easily this way.

There is a spectrum of shades, going from nudes, to pinks, reds and browns, as well as a surprising bright purple in the mix - not at all expected from a drugstore brand, but certainly a welcome sight! I love it when brands surprise me!

These all have the same rose scent as the original range, which I find quite pleasant, but I need to point out, as some may be more sensitive to scents than I am. These glide onto the lips easily, and they do indeed have a matte finish. What I also like is that while they are matte lipsticks, they don't tug on the lips, and aren't cakey. These also don't the lips out, another bonus!

Another good point about these lippies is that with the wind kicking up, this doesn't quite end up making quite as much of a mess on my face as strands of my hair drags bits of lipstick over my face. Always a fear when I'm wearing bold lipstick! Here are swatches of the range:

Left to right: 110 Leader of the pink; 120 Call the shots; 200 Salute; 500 Take the stage; 610 High flyer; 700 Trendsetter; 750 Look who's talking; 800 Run the show; 810 The matte factor

These retail for $15.95 each, and they are definitely worth adding to your collection! My go tos are currently 200 Salute for a nude, 700 Trendsetter for a 'my lips but better' and 500 Take the stage for that bold red. These are stocked wherever Rimmel is found, including Priceline, Big W and Target.

Have you tried these yet? What's your favourite colour?

  2. Beautiful photos! I love how the packaging has the little strip of colour on the outside to match the lipstick shade.

  3. After wearing almost exclusively Rimmel lipsticks for years, then abandoning them for snazzier brands, I bought Salute the other day and I'm really happy with it!
