How To: Bounce Back From The Flu This Season ft. Hydralyte *

What with study stress and everything else happening (full time work, general life stuff, hating on Winter etc), my immune system has been taking one hit after another, so it's been an excellent surprise to know that I'm still feeling like I've got my head above the water and managing to recover from my cold at a good rate.
I thought I'd take this moment to talk through some tips for how to not feel too overwhelmed when you've got lots on your plate and you need to keep going. I have a few ideas that apply, whether you're trying not to be sick, or even if you are, here's some of what I've been doing to try and stay ahead of the curve!

1) Sleep well - Make sure you're snoozing enough! It's really important that you don't stay up late, trying to watch telly as a way to unwind when you've had a rough day. It's so easy to fall into that trap! Know when to switch it off, so you can switch off yourself. If you're having trouble achieving that goal, try some chamomile tea, or a bit of lavender spray on your pillow.

2) Make time for yourself - In the midst of all the madness, you have to think about setting some time aside so that you can let information sink in, or just relax. Even if it's 5 minutes each time, it will make a world of difference.

3) Stay well hydrated - This is really, really important! I can't tell you the number of times I haven't had enough water at work. The upside of studying is that drinking water is basically a way to punctuate my breaks, so I actually have been drinking tons. What can make it better, especially when you're feeling low, is having a bit of Hydralyte *! I drink this religiously when I've been laid low by the flu bug, and what I love about this is that it comes not just in the powder, ice blocks and ready made bottles anymore, but it also comes in a tablet form, so it's easy to carry that around with you.

This is great for replacing fluid and electrolytes lost as a result of dehydration. My friend, Miss GS, who drinks this regularly, and I are at a stalemate regarding flavours - she reckons orange is the go to, while I maintain that blackcurrant is my favourite. Additionally, for those who don't like either, you can try apple, lemon lime or lemonade!

4) You are what you eat - I'm not preaching the merits of cooking a good meal, because, trust me, you wouldn't want me in the kitchen, but I'm saying that you need to find someone who can if you can't! Luckily for me, scurvy is off the plate, and yummy and healthy is on it, because my husband hides vegetables in my food!

5) Take supplements - Even with a great diet, sometimes you need a little something extra, particularly when you're feeling not quite right. Whether it's multivitamins or a bit of vitamin C, garlic and horseradish for when your nose is feeling stuffy, be sure to pop what's necessary down the hatch!

6) Exercise! - I know you might be low on time, or energy, but get out there! Run, walk, pump something! It doesn't matter, you just need to do it! This will clear your mind and let you reset your mind.

I hope this helps you fend off the evilness of the flu bug! Good luck if you're not feeling well - I know what that's like, and I've been really good with my fluids!

  1. Working in a school, the bugs get passed around so easily and quickly. Another tip is to have good hygiene as someone else may not!

I use to have Hydralyte when I was sick and it's a good way to get more water/electrolytes into you as it has the added flavour.
