Review: Mielle Rosemary Mint Strengthening Hair Masque

This week has been a bit of a slow one for me, and while it's been nice to catch my breath, it's around now when I start getting a little itchy and wanting to do things. I don't think I can ever hold still - horrendous, isn't it? I enjoy having lots of projects to keep my mind and hands occupied, then I get overwhelmed and stressed, but I imagine that's what being an adult is like, isn't it? This is why I always take off for flights and destinations away from Sydney. If I'm not in Sydney, then I can't do a whole bunch of things I'd try to otherwise. I always need to remind myself to slow down, and not get too swept up in, well, life.

One thing that I always have time for, though, is a little bit of self care. I'm always carving time out for myself when I can, between projects, and for the days when I'm trying to multitask and do everything all at once, masks are absolutely necessary. Face masks are part of my regular routine, and after I started bleaching my hair by myself, hair masks became a tri-weekly ritual. While I was in Singapore recently, there was one that caught my eye that I had to pick up, and I've also come to realise that it's available at iHerb, as well as at other online retailers, which I'm very pleased about, because, spoiler, this stuff is legit!

Ok, so let's chat about Mielle! It's a brand created by a woman named Monique Rodriguez, who wanted to create a range to help keep hair healthy and looking amazing using products that have organic ingredients in them. This is said to be a restorative and moisturising masque that's meant to nourish, hydrate and strengthen the tresses, so that your hair can look and feel healthier, quenching the thirst that dry, brittle tresses may have. It's suitable for all hair types, and meant to be safe for chemically-treated hair. As someone with purple hair currently, I can say that this doesn't seem to strip my hair of colour more than any other products.

The formula is infused with biotin, which is what's meant to support the hair, making it stronger, and this also has certified organic ingredients in it, such as rosemary, honey and coconut oil. This hair masque is presented as a very thick, white paste sitting in an amber jar with a screw lid. This makes it easy to scoop the desired amount out of the container, and you simply wash your hair like you normally would, before popping this through it and letting it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it out. I like that this doesn't feel overly cooling, if at all, on the scalp, nor is it particularly minty. I find this to be an easy hair masque to spread over my hair and use, and overall, my hair seems softer and stronger for using it.

I feel like this does make my hair appear a little more lustrous, and it stays tangle free for longer. I literally had a friend reach out and touch my hair recently, because she said it looked really healthy, and that was the day after I used this masque. I will say that this doesn't give my hair any body at all - it actually makes it straighter and flatter, but for work days, it doesn't make a difference, as my hair goes up into a ponytail anyway. I quite like this mask, but I'm also aware that protein heavy masques shouldn't be used too often, so I only reach for this once a fortnight. It retails for just under $20, which is quite affordable. What are your hair needs?
