Review. Votary Blemish Rescue Oil
Now that we're just about halfway through Spring, it's time to switch out a few products in my rotation, which for me, includes heavier products generally, including my face oil. My skin has had a few freak outs recently, cropping out in the very occasional, but very obvious, blemishes that seem to stand out. So, I decided to swap out my heavier face oil for the Votary Blemish Rescue Oil, in the hopes that it would serve my skin better at this point of the year.
I've been enamoured with Votary for a while, and while I'm not a blemish prone person, I figured it might be worth trying the Blemish Rescue Oil, which is supposed to combat redness and skin irritation and inflammation, calm infection, as well as soften the skin, so that there can be less scarring and marking as a result of having a breakout. Essentially, this is meant to help hydrate the skin, while also reducing the chances that you'll have any traces of it left behind.
The main ingredient in this is the 2% salicylic acid. This is meant to work by penetrating pores and dissolving dead skin cells, and this is accompanied by tamanu extract (a fruit native to the Pacific Islands), which has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, and is supposed to reduce redness and inflammation. There's also rice bran oil, which is chock full of Vitamin E, and great for conditioning the skin, helping to protect it, while oat oil, which is brimming with antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamins, can keep the skin soothed.
This oil comes in their customary green packaging, as a glass vial containing about 15 ml of product. The bottle has an opening in the top, once you unscrew the lid, and it's a simple, yet effective way to get it out - just tip it upside down, and place a drop on your finger, before massaging it into the affected area on your skin. I had a corker of a pimple on my chin recently - we're talking inflammation, very obvious yellow bump and discomfort - and this really helped with reducing the unpleasantness of the situation, making it better by soothing the skin over time. I love that with this, you don't have to compromise between using an oil to keep your skin hydrated, or skipping that step to try and not add to your natural oils when blemishes come up on the skin.
This isn't a heavy oil, and aside from spot treatments, I've also been using this on the rest of my face on a regular basis. I don't find this to have a discernible scent, and this is quite an oily oil, so make sure you're using this sparingly, or you can end up with a bit of an oil slick on your skin. I don't believe you can find Votary anymore in Australia, but you can certainly get it online from the UK, from places such as Cult Beauty. Do you continue to use an oil when you have breakouts, or do you shy away from them, because you're concerned about how an oil might affect your skin?
