Review: Skintific Purifying Barrier Ice Cream Cleansing Balm
Cleansing balms are probably one of my favourite discoveries as a lazy girl! There are two pieces of advice that I adhere to, and have done since I was in my late teens. The first one is that sunscreen is a non-negotiable. I wear sunscreen on a daily basis, and that includes overcast days, Winter days and even days spent on a plane. For those who may not know, you really should be wearing sunscreen on a plane, particularly if you enjoy sitting next to the window. I will say that the one time that I decided to forego sunscreen was when I was in Tromso, Norway during the Winter - the sun never rose during the day, and we were in perpetual darkness for that week, so I suppose there will always be exceptions to the rule!
The second skincare tip that I've stuck by, and another one that I'll be passing on to others, is to make sure that all of your makeup is off before your head hits the pillow. The last thing is want is to leave your makeup, dirt and sweat gathered on your skin, so that you can marinate in it while you're recuperating from your day, allowing for it to fester on your skin, resulting in blemishes. If you're keen to look after your skin, just keep in mind - don't be a grub, give it a scrub! It has all evolved, of course, so it's now easier than ever to take your makeup off, which means that you really have no excuse not to do so!
We've gone from oil based makeup remover, to makeup wipes, to micellar water, to trying to cut out the middle man entirely, and going straight to washing your face, using cleansing oils, and now the more travel friendly cleansing balms to cut through all the makeup, so that you can be left with squeaky clean skin. I picked up the Skintific Purifying Barrier Ice Cream Cleansing Balm about a 3 months ago, when I headed to Bali on a solo adventure. I liked that it's meant to remove waterproof makeup and impurities within 10 seconds, without leaving a residue on the skin, while also supporting the skin barrier.
This also has ceramide and Vitamin E in it to help the skin stay soft, smooth and moisturised. It also has something known as a Superberry Complex, made up of strawberry, blueberry and acai berry. This is filled with antioxidants and meant to help fight free radicals, reducing the signs of aging. It comes in a pink tub with a white screw lid that has a spatula built into the it, which I love! This design makes more sense to me than one where there's a spatula in the tub itself, which is a little messier. This has a creamy texture, which makes scooping it out a breeze.
It has the loveliest, sweet berry scent, which makes me a little hungry. To use this, scoop out a small portion of cleansing balm, then massage it into the skin in circular motions, before adding some water to help emulsify it and working it into the skin a little further. Once you're done, rinse it away, and double cleanse with a cleanser of your choice. For the sake of putting it through it's paces, I tried this against foundation, glittery eyeshadow and waterproof mascara. While it powered through the foundation, and cut through the eyeshadow, it faltered at the waterproof mascara, sadly, and didn't quite manage to get it all off my lashes. Still, it's been largely a success, and an easy product to love. This is both vegan and cruelty free, and can be found at various online retailers. What was the last cleansing balm you used?
