Brand Focus: BEACHFOX Sunscreen
As much as I preach the necessity for sunscreen, I know that it's not the easiest thing to find one that suits you, because everyone is different, which means that things like texture, scent and price all come into play when we're purchasing a product. Therefore, I apologise for disrupting your carefully thought out plan with something that you will now have to consider, and that is BEACHFOX, which is a Sydney born and bred brand that is now available at Priceline!
Aside from the ridiculously cute and slightly sexy name of BEACHFOX (because who doesn't want to be a fox at the beach?), what else do we know about BEACHFOX? This Manly based brand first came on the scene a few years ago, and in fact, was something that I discovered and purchased on the Sephora website. What initially started as a kernel of an idea where they were looking at making sunscreen more wearable due to hearing a colleague talk about her daughter washing sunscreen off because it was thick and uncool to wear (YIKES) blossomed into the brand that we know today.
BEACHFOX aims to have wearable sunscreen for daily use that's comfortable on the skin, so that it's feels like less of a chore than having to gloop it on, and more like a daily kiss of protection - a little labour of love. It's their burning desire to help protect people from melanomas and promote sun safety that has created BEACHFOX with their broad spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreens that claim to tick the following boxes of being non-stick, fast drying, clear, non-aerosol, waterproof and sweat proof.
These are available in four scents - Coconut, Vanilla, Grapefuit and Lime, which, sounds like the start of a good beachside cocktail! I love hearing a bit of the BTS stuff, so I had to ask Robbie, one of the two founders, what they did to determine the scents. It involved asking a lot of close friends, the design team and a survey that was sent out to over 200 people, with Coconut taking the lead in terms of votes and sales. Given that I have an general aversion to coconut scented products, it's nice that there are other products with different fragrances for babes like me, and probably explains why Vanilla is also very popular! I am a little bit bummed, though, that Green Apple and Blood Orange were in the running, and didn't end up on the shelves!
I also wanted to know if they had any top tips for using BEACHFOX, and Robbie offered a number of gems:
- Use it everyday. Even cloudy days have UV rays!
- If in doubt, re-apply. BEACHFOX gives good coverage of around 4 hours, but the sun is harsh and particularly if swimming, you should always re-apply regularly
- For your face, spray into your palms first, then smooth on your face. BEACHFOX is fine to use on your face, but doesn't taste as good it smells.
- Remember the forgotten zones. Tops of ears, tops of feet and shins are essential and are often neglected when applying SPF.
- Be sun safe generally. There are great SPF products around nowadays, however, they are best utilized as part of a wider sun care plan, including hats, sunglasses and suitable clothing.
- Using sunscreen everyday helps slow down the skin's aging process, so the care you take now will be highly appreciated by your future gorgeous self!
- See point 1!
These come in vibrantly coloured bottles with a spray pump for ease of application, aside from being available at Priceline, which is everywhere, they cam also be found at the BEACHFOX website, online at Sephora, and The Iconic. BEACHFOX is cruelty free, and suitable for sensitive skin. Stay sun safe, everyone!
