Galentine's Day for Extroverts

Picture this - you're a little lonely, a little down, and you're hoping to find some company for the one day a year that practically force feeds us what romantic notions are meant to be. That's right, I'm talking about Valentine's Day. BUT! Of course, this year, we are still in a pandemic, and while we are never keen on revisiting bad dates, there is nothing quite like contact tracing to help dredge up all the negative energy that goes with an undesirable get together, so that you could relive terrible moments from said bad date, as you potter around the house while being in enforced quarantine. Talk about being haunted by ghosts of your dating past! Instead, why don't you keep things simple this year, and celebrate something wonderful - the women in your life! Say a big hello to Galentine's Day!

If you've ever watched 'Parks and Recreation', then you'd be familiar with the concept. Essentially, it's about celebrating your gal pals being the wonderful things that they are, and them helping you flourish! Yes, yes, of course we're still in a pandemic, but that doesn't mean we can't have a little bit of fun! That's what I'm here for right now, of course - your all encompassing Sydney-based activity guide and gift advisor! Obviously, not all babes want to do the same thing, so I'm covering the ground for extroverts, introverts and those separated by land and/or sea. So, let's get started!

Alright! If you're into hitting the town and taking some time out from the everyday to gab about your life over a couple of drinks, then this is the post for you! One of my favourite things about hanging out with my friends is the preparation, which allows me to spend even more time with them! We're talking a real life chatty Get Ready With Me, where you start your catch ups while swatching eyeshadow shades, and swapping makeup advice. Choose shades that vary from the nude and subtle, to the vibrant and vivid, and that's just eyeshadows! It's a veritable candy box of treasures - all that glitters isn't gold, it's also champagne, bronze and berry tones!

Ciate has recently released some absolute stunners, such as their Tulum eyeshadow palette, which is filled with glitters and brighter shades, while Mykonos contains more muted, nude shades with a mix of mattes and shimmers. If you want a bit of both, Anatasia Beverly Hills has a palette that fits the bill, with their Modern Renaissance palette. The colour payoff is outrageously good, and it wears well throughout the day. And if you're after some really different and exciting, Ciate's got you with their Shadow Flip, which is a multi-chromatic shifting liquid shadow.

Depending on your mood, you might be keen to really stand out, and that means putting on a bold lip. You could consider Arbonne's Smoothed Over lipstick in Guava is a pretty bright pink with a creamy texture, or if you can't quite decide how bold you'd like to go, try the Karen Murrell Lip Palette for either a colour straight from the five shades available, or find the right colour by mixing your own.

Don't forget a bit of lip prep first to get your lips looking really juicy, so that the colour can really pop. Try the Ciate Disco Nap Lip Mask for a lip treat - this can also be used prior to going to bed, so that you can wake up with soft and supple lips. Something to think about, so that you can at least nurse your hangover looking cute - just because you feel terrible doesn't mean you have to look terrible. Been there, done that.

Spent too much time on your eye makeup, and you're looking to grab something on the go that would look after your lips, while adding some colour to it? The new Baby Rose Gold 101 Ointment from Lanolips is just the ticket for that! Bonus - this doubles as a blush, so that you can slide this one into your clutch for touching your look up on the go.

While you're at it, look at shaking things up with some new brow products from Brow Code. I know that new makeup products (particularly brows, because they are seriously important, y'all) can be a gamble, but when you hit the jackpot with something good, it can definitely give you that bit of an extra confidence boost! Brow Code has a range of products to suit your needs, from pencils to creamades (a creamy pomade) to a brow oil that's supposed to help stimulate growth.

For that finishing touch, give your girlfriend, and yourself, a little spritz of gorgeous in a bottle - Recreation Beauty Call Me Venus, which is a rose scented perfume that smells like a gentle Summer evening, just as the warm orange light hits the petals of a rose in bloom.

Add the frosting on the cake that is your face with a set of lashes, such as the gorgeous Fluttery Light No. 117 from Eylure, which now comes in a double pack - that means one for you, and one for your favourite babe. A full look, with staggered lashes, to widen the look of your eyes - just stunning!

Now that you're all dressed up and ready to get out of the house, where are you going to head? If you're looking for a great bar that also has an outdoor space on the sidewalk (very Paris, ooh la la!), then head to Maybe Sammy, where you can spy on people while you're sipping on cocktails, including mini ones, if you get there early enough! If you fancy a place that's heavy on the gin, and loaded with ambiance, then The Barber Shop may be your stop. Feeling peckish, but still wanting to toast all the good times while nibbling on a little something? Head across the road from The Barber Shop to The Rook. Other places that are worthy of a mention include:

Spread those wings (and make sure that no one is getting close to that wingspan of yours - social distancing!), and get out there and have fun, girls! Just make sure you stay safe and sanitise those hands of yours diligently!
