Review: Dr. G Black Snail Retinol Ampoule

Trying new brands is always exciting for me, especially when it comes to K-beauty! The rise of Korean related things in my life over the last few years, starting with K-beauty, and other things like Korean food, K-dramas and the occasional Korean phrase in daily life... It's been a delight, honestly, and truly a culture that I've come to embrace. So, you can imagine how psyched I was to be offered the chance to try a brand I didn't know before, and that's the Dr. G Black Snail Retinol Ampoule!

I remember a time when the idea of snail mucin being used in skincare would be worthy of a few shocked faces, but truly, that time has passed, and no one seems to bat an eyelid these days when it comes up! This is meant to take up to six years off your skin age, while also being appropriate for sensitive skin, in that it's not meant to cause irritation. The black snail mucin is meant to enhance skin elasticity, while also preventing moisture loss in the skin.

It also has black bee honey extract and royal jelly protein, both working together to nourish the skin, boosting skin vitality and working towards healthier skin. This is also designed to brighten the skin and help combat hyperpigmentation. This is encased in a glass bottle that bears ombre black to gold colouring, topped with a dropper built into the cap, making it easy to titrate the amount that you'd like to use. I will say that the dropper doesn't provide a very strong suction, so if you're after more than just a small dollop, you'd have to dip back into the bottle for more.

The serum is a pale beige, and I don't feel like it has much of a scent to it. This has a silky smooth consistency, and it's easily absorbed by the skin, taking a very short period of time to sink in. I love that this doesn't result in my skin feeling uncomfortable, nor does it cause any sort of negative reactions, like tingling, making it quite a gentle retinol product, and something that I could jump into using daily without needing to be eased into it.

Sadly, I don't feel like this has made a big difference for my hyperpigmentation, as I feel like that will always be there, but I do feel like that does seem to help keep my skin bright. My skin has also been feeling a little plump and bouncy, and at this time of the year, when my skin can be a little more sensitive and prone to eczema, it doesn't go amiss! This is a vastly affordable product, given that it comes as a generous 50ml bottle, and retails for under $40 at multiple online retailers. What snail mucin products have you tried?
